EMPOWERING CHAMBARA CLINIC WITH SOLAR POWER
1 September 2025 – We are proud to announce the successful completion of the solar energy installation at Chambara Clinic in Chivhu, Zimbabwe! A vital milestone in our mission to improve rural healthcare access.
Why This Project Mattered
Chambara Clinic serves hundreds of families in the Chivhu area and supports 5–6 births every week. Yet, frequent power outages lasting days often left the clinic without electricity. This meant:
Vaccines could not be safely stored.
Nighttime emergencies were treated in darkness.
Essential medical equipment and the borehole water pump often failed.
Our Solution
Community Impact
Friends of Zimbabwe, in partnership with local contractors and international supporters, initiated a solar energy project designed to provide a reliable and independent off-grid power supply.
The installed system now includes:
12 high-efficiency solar panels
3 deep-cycle lithium batteries for overnight supply
1 hybrid 10KVA inverter
This setup ensures continuous power for the clinic’s six rooms, medical refrigerators, lighting, water pump, and even the four staff houses next to the clinic.
The benefits are immediate and long-lasting:
Safe childbirth at night thanks to reliable lighting
Preservation of vaccines to protect children and families
Improved working and living conditions for healthcare staff
Reduced dependence on Zimbabwe’s unstable national grid
The project has already strengthened the trust of the local community and will continue to support healthcare delivery for years to come.
Thank you for your support
This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of our volunteers, local contractors, and the generous contributions from our donors. We especially thank ESA HRF and Lionsclub Leiderdorp for their vital support.
Together, we have brought light, power, and hope to Chambara Clinic.
