Bringing Clean Water

Creating Lasting Change at Chamukwenjera Primary School

Our journey to clean water

In November 2022, our team members, Prince Matizha, Joshua Maponga, and Simbarashe Tizora, ventured to Chivhu. Through collaborative efforts with the government, we ensured clean water reached vital areas within Chamukwenjera Primary School. Our chairman, Prince, joined hands with locals to dig trenches across the school, enabling water supply to reach the toilets, school campus, teacher’s quarters, and the school garden. Working together, Chamukwenjera Primary School now has a fully operational borehole. Among other accomplishments, the Friends of Zimbabwe Foundation:

  • Connected pipes to four water taps – at the toilets, within the school yard, the garden, and teacher’s quarters.
  • Installed a pressure tank to ensure consistent water pressure.
  • Protected the school garden with a fence against animals, paving the way for an agricultural project.
  • Set up a 5000-liter water tank for a steady water supply.

Impact beyond clean water

We’re thrilled to share the far reaching impacts of our efforts. With the new water source, students have learned how to cultivate and tend to a thriving garden. This hands-on experience not only imparts valuable life skills but also encourages a sense of responsibility towards the environment. Additionally, the school teachers now cook nutritious meals for the children every Wednesday, using vegetables harvested from the school garden. This heartwarming initiative not only nourishes young bodies but also imparts valuable lessons about sustainability and teamwork.

The magic of water

If there’s magic on this planet, it’s in water. It lacks taste, shape, or color to define it. Yet when sunlight dances upon a lake’s surface, its sparkle can brighten even the dullest day. Paddle boards gliding and canoes slicing through water capture a sense of serenity. This same water upholds human dignity. It nurtures food, powers energy, sustains cities, and preserves ecosystems. This magic belongs to all, including our friends at Chamukwenjera Primary School.

We extend our warmest thanks for being part of a significant milestone – our first major water project at Chamukwenjera Primary School, Manyene RDC, Chivhu.

Your time, efforts, and contributions played a crucial role in making this project a success!

Our “thank-yous” are endless, but we offer them again: Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

"Through the Friends of Zimbabwe's irrigation project, a heartwarming transformation unfolds – now, every Wednesday, teachers cook nourishing meals for our students using the bountiful fresh vegetables from our very own school garden."
