New Teachers' Rooms Project
For years, Chamukwenjera Primary School in Chivhu, Zimbabwe, struggled to attract qualified teachers due to the significant challenges they faced in commuting. Teachers often had to travel long distances by bus or on foot—sometimes for hours—making it nearly impossible to reach the school every day. This not only affected the teachers’ well-being but also impacted the continuity and quality of education for the students.
The solution: Teachers’ accommodation
To address this challenge, the construction of dedicated teachers’ accommodation was identified as a crucial step. The goal was to provide comfortable, accessible housing for teachers, allowing them to stay close to the school and focus on their work without the burden of long, exhausting commutes.
The progress: A step-by-step journey
Our journey began in May 2024, when we launched the fundraising campaign to build these essential teachers’ quarters. With the generous support of donors, we were able to lay the groundwork, securing the necessary funds and materials to make this vision a reality. Throughout the construction process, we worked closely with local builders, ensuring the facilities were tailored to the needs of the teachers and that they met the community’s standards.
Over the months, the project saw steady progress, from the initial foundation to the final touches of the building. The installation of doors and windows marked the final milestone, signaling the completion of the project.
The result: Completed in March 2025
As of March 2025, the teachers’ quarters are officially complete! The teachers now have a safe, comfortable place to live, which will allow them to remain at the school and teach without the stress of long commutes. This project will not only improve the living conditions of teachers but will also contribute to the quality of education at Chamukwenjera Primary School. With this step, we are investing in the future of the children, the school, and the community at large.
